What is a 3-Way Valve?
A 3-way valve is a versatile device used to control the flow of fluids in a piping system. Unlike a standard 2-way valve that simply opens or closes, a 3-way valve has three ports, allowing it to perform more complex functions. The primary purpose is to either mix two different fluids into a single stream, or to divert a single fluid stream into one of two different outlets. This unique capability is why they are often called mixing or diverting valves.
The two main types of 3-way valves are the L-port and the T-port. The internal design of the valve's core, or "ball," determines its flow pattern. An L-port valve allows fluid to be diverted from a central port to one of the two side ports, effectively acting as a simple diverter. In contrast, a T-port valve offers more flexibility. It can divert flow like an L-port, but it can also mix fluids or allow flow between all three ports simultaneously, depending on its position. Diagrams and images are essential for visualizing these different flow paths.
Choosing the right valve also depends on the materials it's made from. Common materials include brass for general water applications, stainless steel for corrosive chemicals or high temperatures, and PVC for residential or non-corrosive industrial use. The material must be compatible with the fluid it's handling to ensure safety and longevity.

It's applicable for cylinders ranging from 16-40.
- VG342 Series: These are three-way internal/external pilot operated NC/NO solenoid valves designed for air control, available with 24V, 110V, and 220V AC/DC voltage options. They feature low power consumption of 1.8W DC for energy saving, flexible actions (normally closed, normally open, internal pilot, external pilot), and various thread types (RC, G, NPT, NPTF) and port sizes (1/2”, 3/4”, 1”).
- VS3135 Series: These are directly operated three-way solenoid valves with optional port sizes of 1/4”, 3/8”, and 1/2”. They are designed for dry air operation, requiring no lubrication, and offer flexible rated voltages including 24 VDC, 100 VAC, 200 VAC, 110 VAC, and 220 VAC.
- VT307 Series: As directly operated NC/NO solenoid valves, the VT307 series offers low power consumption (1.8W DC) and flexible actions. Available with 1/8” and 1/4” female threads, and a range of AC/DC voltages (12V, 24V, 110V, 220V), these valves are suitable for both high-pressure (0 to 1 MPa) and standard (0 to 0.7 MPa) applications, with a fast response time of 20ms or less.
- VO307 Series: This series of directly operated NC/NO solenoid valves is uniquely offered as manifold configurations, with options for two to twenty stations. They provide flexible actions, multiple thread types, and common or individual exhaust options, making them versatile for complex pneumatic systems.
